Treasure by the Sea

Advertisements

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of Flagler Beach, Florida, lies a hidden coastal gem that combines the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean with the charm of Flagler Beach. Treasure by the Sea is not the nicest or worst campground in the area. It lacks the concrete pads and paved roads of Beverly Beach Campground but it puts you beachfront for hundreds of dollars less.

Coastal Bliss

As you arrive at Treasure by the Sea, you’ll be greeted by the soothing sounds of crashing waves and the salty breeze that whispers tales of the sea. The campground’s prime location offers campers stunning oceanfront views, making it a picture-perfect retreat for those seeking a true coastal escape. I could hear the waves at night inside the camper with no windows open. It’s also a great location to watch the now regular rocket launches. There were three while I was there. The weather and clouds were perfect for viewing on one of them. I just missed seeing a “heavy” launch by a few days.

Campsite Variety

There are very few sites, only 30, with 10 oceanfront. The sites are shell based pads with sand based roads. This wasn’t great to start, but I put out a thick rug to wipe my feet and it pretty much eliminated tracking the sand in. Well, until it rained for almost a week. This is not a good place when it’s raining. Luckily it dried up before I had to pull out. The sand on the road nearest the ocean has very little shell and is very soft and your truck/camper do sink a little. However, I had no trouble arriving or leaving.

Activities Galore

While Treasure by the Sea is mostly a mobile home park on one side of the street and a campground on the ocean side of street with few activities. It doesn’t mean the area is short on things to do. One of the things I like about Flagler beach is it’s location. Flagler has the feel of an old, small Florida village by the sea. Yet anything you would want is nearby.

Flagler has food, bars, surfing, shopping and even a brewery. Just not many. However, 15 minutes away is Palm Coast with all the things you expect in a city. From Walmarts to fine dining. A short 25 minute drive is Daytona Beach with all the traditional beach destination attractions and overcrowding you would expect. 30 minutes away is St. Augustine, one of my favorite Florida cities, with a small but attractive beach zone, The old city and all it has to offer, including the fort and the city itself with everything from RV dealerships to malls. There are major airports in Daytona and just an hour away in Jacksonville.

In the areas above you have super speedways, racing halls of fame, golf hall of fame, state parks, nature trails, kayaking, fishing and much more

Local Flavors

On one stop here last year, I went to a biker bar in Brunell, Florida. A short 20 minute drive away. There was live music and cold beer. I don’t remember the names but there were a couple of bands and solo musicians that played together. One guy was the 7 time champion harmonica player in the state of Florida. Several others were from bands you would recognize that had settled in the area. I really wish I could remember the bands and the names. Point is it was a great experience. From Flagler there’s a multitude of options. Just minutes from the campground are a couple of restaurants you should sample.

The Java Joint is a small restaurant offering elevated beach view seating. The food selection is well varied and breakfast is tasty with mimosa’s as an option. They usually have a decent selection of craft beer, good burgers/sandwiches and one of the best views of any restaurant in the area.

The Turtle Shack Cafe was another nice find. It’s literally in the next block south of the Java Joint. The Trigger fish dinner here is excellent. Usually have some nice beers on tap and they also offer a full bar. Outdoor seating is road level and fills up fast during good weather.

There an other great places to eat, drink and be merry nearby. The Golden Lion Cafe and Break-Awayz. However, you can walk to the Turtle Shack and Java Joint from the campground and get your steps and some great food in.
