Weekends are for Camping

Determined to make good on our promise to each other and maximize our investment. We hit the road again, one week after our maiden voyage. This was another short 50 minute trip. Our destination this time was Adventures Unlimited near Cleveland, TN.

Adventures Unlimited is an outfitter offering rafting trips on the Ocoee River. The Ocoee hosted olympic white water sports during the Atlanta Olympics. In addition to the outfitter service, Adventures has a campground, cabins, a Mexican restaurant and the Bus Bar. Yes it’s a bar in a bus. They have live music on an outdoor stage pretty much every weekend. We have used them for rafting before and it was a good experience. They also host the annual Tennessee Valley Canoe Club’s paddle school which I highly recommend if you want to paddle flat or white water.

This being our second trip we were much better prepared than our first outing. The weather was also much better with cool evenings, cool mornings and warm mid to late afternoons. We setup camp quickly and in daylight. Then we moseyed over to the Bus Bar for some beer and music.

Yes those are pillows in the background. We forgot our pillows and the folks at Adventures overheard us talking about it and went and got us some from their cabins. This obviously earned some stars on my Google Guide review. Oh and for those of you too young to remember that blue thing on the left is a pay phone. You put quarters in it and you could call people. No, there is not option to send them a text.

So after a fun night at the Bus Bar and some campsite goofing we headed toward the National Forest for some hiking. The Ocoee area is famous for its whitewater kayaking and rafting, but it features almost unlimited hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, lakes and lots of campgrounds including primitive camping.

The morning hike was both refreshing and exhausting. This was late April so we didn’t exactly have our hiking legs under us yet. We headed back to camp for some rest before hitting up the Bus Bar again.

This was a great weekend getaway and exactly why we bought the Popup. We highly recommend Adventures, especially since you can camp, raft, hike and party all in one spot. We didn’t hit any breweries on this trip but we would recommend a tap house in nearby Cleveland, TN. Mash and Hops. The owner is friendly and knowledgable. His wife owns the connected wine shop. Just down the sidewalk you will find a great burger place, Southern Stack.
