Oh hey, there you are. I would say welcome back but it’s actually the Campsite Brews team that’s been AWOL.
I hope y’all have been missing reading as much as we have missed writing. Life just throws you curveballs sometimes.
Just as I was adding the finishing touches and images to a post full of news about our transition to full timing. Life popped up and reminded us that that plans are just that. Plans.
About six weeks ago we upgraded our rig and I wrote a draft post titled Changes In Latitudes…Changes In Attitudes. It was a Sunday and we had just picked up the new rig the day before. Little did I know our life’s would change in the next 48 hrs.
Tuesday as I’m working my day job from my new more comfortable surroundings….Mom calls. She has dementia and she is telling me my deceased grandmother is having a stroke. I ask to speak to dad and she goes looking for him. She can’t find him but then I hear him and tell her that’s dad. Hand him the phone. I say hey dad mom is upset… then I hear the muffled, slurred speech and I know.
I can’t understand him at all and ask him to give mother the phone back. I tell her I’m hanging up to call an ambulance. I’m 35 minutes from their house with no vehicle as Cathy was still working on prem at the time. Fortunately, I had a friend who happened to be in the area who went a picked up mother for me. The ambulance was there in less than 5 minutes and gone 5 minutes later. A friend of ours lived nearby and took me to the Hospital.
So the last six weeks or so we have been dealing with this, including mom living with us for three weeks in the camper. I’m sure Cathy will write about our time hosting my sweet little mother. We have been estate selling, trying to get mom and dad into assisted living and fighting with insurance companies. We have been way too tired sit and write and I’ve been trying to keep my day job from getting too far behind.
We obviously canceled our trip to Big South Fork so it goes back on the destination list. We do have a couple of new campgrounds to review plus some initial impressions of an RV app we are trying out.
Dad is doing great and will be out of rehab this week. As we get them settled into their new lifestyle in assisted living. We will return to our new life on the road and resume regular posting
