Fun with ChatGPT

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture. It is designed to generate human-like responses to natural language input, and can be used for a variety of tasks such as text completion, question answering, and chatbot interactions. ChatGPT has been trained on a large corpus of text data, allowing it to generate coherent and contextually relevant responses to a wide range of prompts.

Description above proved by the ChatGPT bot itself .

Why do I care?

This technology is the next Google Search. It’s going to be that impactful on the world. It will be worked into all kinds of applications and devices, some you may not even know it’s there. This will make your life better….eventually.

While this is an open source project, meaning anyone can contribute to the code. Many companies are already incorporating the technology into there applications. Microsoft has invested $100 million dollars in the project and recently incorporated the tech into Bing. Google has released its version named Bard. This is going to pop up in places you would never think of and it’s happening now.

Is it amazing?

In its current form ChatGPT may not be 100% accurate, but it is sort of like magic. Maybe not amazing yet. I will demonstrate this in the post. Today if you “Google” something you have to sort through the results for the right links to data you need. In its current iteration ChatGPT 4, requires some proof reading for accuracy.

In the current version it is great for summarizing data as opposed to just searching. I would say the current use case would be to help with ideas for an article or paper. Yes it will write your term paper but you might fail because the facts are not accurate. But think of it this way. Have you ever been writing an email, report or paper and you get stuck on how to say what you want to say and communicate it a certain way or with a certain tone?

This is where this technology comes in handy. You can tell ChatGPT to “write a paragraph about a quarterly decrease in sales that is positive and in the style of Mark Twain”. Now you have an example to kickstart your own writing and maybe it finds that word or phrase you were looking for. Pretty useful huh?

So I decided to try this out by having it actually write an article for me. So I prompted ChatGPT as follows. “Write a fun article telling people why they should go to Big Beach Brewing in Gulf Shores, Alabama”. And here is what I got….

Ahoy there, my thirsty and adventurous friends! Are you ready to dive into an ocean of delicious craft beer? Well, I’ve got just the place for you: Big Beach Brewing in Gulf Shores, Alabama!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Alabama? But I thought that was just for football and fried chicken!” Oh, my dear friend, you couldn’t be more wrong. The Gulf Coast is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and it’s also becoming a craft beer mecca. And at the forefront of this movement is Big Beach Brewing.

First of all, let’s talk about the location. Big Beach is located just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful white sands of Gulf Shores. So, not only can you enjoy a delicious beer, but you can also take a break from the beach and cool off in their taproom. And let me tell you, this taproom is a sight to behold. The space is filled with rustic wood and exposed brick, and there’s even an outdoor patio where you can soak up some sun while sipping on a cold one.

Now, let’s talk about the beer. Big Beach Brewing is known for their creative and delicious brews, with a range of styles to please every palate. Whether you’re a hophead, a sour lover, or a stout connoisseur, they’ve got you covered. Some of their standout beers include the Dixie’s Heart of Gold IPA, the Sassy SeƱorita Mexican Lager, and the Houdini Milk Stout. And if you’re feeling adventurous, they even have a rotating selection of experimental beers that push the boundaries of what you thought beer could be.

But Big Beach isn’t just about the beer. They also have a great food menu, with a focus on local, fresh ingredients. You can snack on some boiled peanuts or pork rinds, or go for something more substantial like a po’boy or a pizza. And if you’re looking for a sweet treat, they’ve got homemade ice cream too!

And if all of that isn’t enough to convince you, Big Beach Brewing also hosts a variety of events throughout the year. From trivia nights to live music, there’s always something fun going on. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch one of their epic beach parties!

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, grab some sunscreen, and head on down to Gulf Shores to experience the magic of Big Beach Brewing. You won’t be disappointed, I promise. And who knows, you might even find yourself saying “Roll Tide” and “War Eagle” before the end of your visit!

As you can see it did a pretty good job, however, some of the food offerings are not correct, at least not the current food and I spot checked the beer names and they appear to be made up. However, it’s still pretty cool that the AI did this in a plausible fashion. But you see the room for growth here, right? And just to be clear. I don’t plan to use this to write my blogs but I definitely could see it helping me past some writers block.

Unlike Siri, Alexa and Google, which follow preprogrammed responses and are not true assistants. ChatGPT has the potential to actually process requests and maintain context. This might be the first true step toward having a virtual assistant or voice controlled devices.

What does this have to do with RVing?

As I mentioned previously, this technology is more about summarizing than searching. So imagine if you could tell an RV app to “Create an itinerary leaving Chattanooga, TN on May 1st, ending in St. Louis, MO on September 1st, include stops at the top 10 attractions, top 8 breweries and include the 10 best hikes. Include at least 1 national park. Calculate fuel costs, food and admission fees.”

Wouldn’t that be a great starting point for planning. Then you could simply adjust the results as needed. That, my friends, would be totally amazing and useful. Even in its current format, asking it the right questions might shorten your search time and save you hours of planning.

Also, this is technology that even older and less technical people can leverage. You just have to think about how you ask the question. That’s not meant to be a slight on older folks, I’m pretty much one myself. I’ve talked to folks around us and it’s amazing how Old School they still do things or how challenging it is for them to use a smartphone. They didn’t grow up using these tools like we did and this technology has the potential to bridge that gap.
