Sunday Morning Musings Episode #2

According to Apple Health I had an amazing night of sleep with no wake-ups. If I wasn’t catching a plane today I would be so chill this morning and relaxed because Apple is correct. I slept like the dead and I feel refreshed this morning. Do y’all monitor your sleep?

I’m heading to South Dakota today to establish residency. Tomorrow I will own a drivers license from only my third state. This is sad. It’s a testimony to the fact that I didn’t chase my dreams when I was younger. I always thought I would live somewhere else but I’ve never lived more than 20 miles from my hometown. Well, until the last year and a half.

I envy the technology and resulting freedom of location that young people have today. I see them doing amazing things and I’m happy that they have the opportunity but can’t help but imagine the memories and stories I would have today if Rick and I had hooked up that old Airstream and headed west like we planned. Would I have settled in another part of the country? Would I have less wanderlust or more? It’s all mute at this point but it’s an opportunity to tell you to just go do it. Don’t have regrets, have adventures.

Anyway, In case you are wondering why South Dakota? It’s pretty simple. It’s the most Full-time friendly state for taxes, voting etc. Things you may not think about until you try to live without a physical building attached to your address. I plan to post on this in the near future and I will include my experience with South Dakota, which honestly has been good so far. The 29 degree high in Sioux Falls tomorrow will not be in the positive column. It’s going to be 74 and sunny here.

Time is short till I’m off on the first big adventure. I feel that I’m ill prepared but I know it’s going to be amazing. It doesn’t matter if I’ve planned and prepared appropriately. It doesn’t matter if I miss things. I’m constantly being told about things to do/see that I didn’t find on my own. It only matters that I go west and experience what I experience because it will all be new to me.

I’ve been disappointed somewhat with my winter stay. Mainly because the weather in the south has been colder and Foley isn’t far enough south when this happens. The resort and people have been great. I’ve really had fun with the people this year and feel these are lasting friendships.

I’m watching KYD (Keep Your Daydream) as I write this morning. He’s going over why he kept his 2019 F-250 and the maintenance he is having done to it. This truck has crisscrossed the country many times and he has more miles on it than I have on my 2019 F-350. He covered problems he’s had and fixed as well as what he is having done to it today. The best part is he’s covering the average time these parts last before you need to do these things. I’m currently having one of the issues and this is giving me some maintenance planning that I’ve added to my to do list. It’s great because it’s camper towing based information. I will say he is fanatical about maintenance to the level I aspire to be.

The last two weeks my home became messy for the first time. One thing that has been a constant since I started this adventure was that everything has pretty much been kept in place. This was partly due to me leaving things out to force myself to reorganize the spaces and not having time to finish before I had to be somewhere or because of travel. Part of it was just me needing some lazy time here and there. Regardless of the reason it has bothered me both times. I’ve gotten used to the tidiness of this lifestyle.

Well, I need to get ready to drive to Pensacola and make sure I have all the things required to become a South Dakota resident. I have a post written that has information on the changes I’ve been making to the camper and storage spaces. I’ve included links to the products I purchased. I still have 4 cabinets I want to change and I’ll include any organizers I use in future posts.

This summer was supposed to be spent in the great state of Wyoming, checking off some more national parks. The President and Mr. Musk had different plans. Due to the federal cuts, the national park scene has a lot of uncertainty.
  • Chateau Le Coeur
Just a short ways off of I-10 you will find a winery named Chateau Le Coeur. The owners moved to northern Florida from the Great Northwest. They have wineries and vineyards in Washington and Oregon. They have an interesting story they tell about starting the winery.

  • WildEdge Brewing Collective
The food was delicious, at least the chicken salad sandwich, was very, very good. The locals were friendly and as I often do I spent a few beers in bar side communion with them. I am a little bummed that I did not pick up any packaged beer or swag from here.

So I’m sitting here listening to the rain, having coffee and reflecting on this journey so far. I’m currently in Del Norte, CO. I’m at Woods and River RV Park and my site is right on the Rio Grande River. It’s been such a nice week.
