Our first week long trip came during the Memorial Day weekend. We have friends who have been camping at Chester Frost Park almost every Memorial Day since they were kids. They invited and we got really lucky to pick up a cancellation spot and on the lake to boot.
This is one of the better parks you can camp at. They have a lot of sites. Most with lake views and a good number directly on the water. Bathhouses are usually clean, although some are older, some are brand new. There are playgrounds for kids. A larger public sandy beach and several public boat ramps. It’s a site of regular bass fishing tournaments. Recently they added a floating inflatable park. While the beach and boat dock area has big nice docks. This is a weakness of the campground. There are no where near enough and they are not large enough. On major holidays you often find 5 or 6 boats tied to one boat that is docked. Hamilton County really should improve this. One other negative is the lack of full hook ups. Still this is one of our favorite parks that’s less than 30 minutes from home. The sites are large, well laid out. many are paved.
We often spend weeks here. I work from the camper and Cathy drives to work from the lake. It’s also nice if we can get near one of the docks we can bring our boat over from the marina. There are six or seven restaurants that are accessible from the water and we often jump in the boat after work and go to dinner. Steve’s Landing, Amigos and Lakeshore are some of our favorites.
There are other restaurants nearby accessible by land that we like to hit. Within 5 minutes you can find three or four Mexican restaurants. I would recommend Biba’s for Italian. Mike’s Tavern is favorite also. If you are into Orangetheory there is one 15 mins from the campground
Usually when we stay here friends drop by and we cook out a lot. It makes for great memories. Chattanooga has several great breweries and is a major tourist city. Tansi Brewing is not far from the campground and you can be in downtown chattanooga in about 20 minutes. The nearby Food City has a very good selection of craft beer. Alcohol is prohibited in the campground so once again if you have it don’t flaunt it and don’t act the fool.
